VP Harris, Treasury Sec. Yellen, and EPA Adm. Regan to Highlight Clean Energy Investments at ESSENCE Festival of Culture

New Orleans, Louisiana  — This week, Vice President Kamala Harris and other senior members of the Biden Administration are joining the Global Black Economic Form at the 2023 ESSENCE Festival of Culture in New Orleans, Louisiana. During the festival, Vice President Harris will join Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan to highlight how President Biden’s clean energy and climate investments support environmental and economic justice in the United States.

In Louisiana specifically, the Inflation Reduction Act is expected to bring an estimated $5 billion of investment in large-scale clean power generation and storage by 2023. Already, the Biden Administration has invested $861 million in clean energy initiatives in Louisiana, which has produced hundreds of jobs for communities of color across the state.

Some examples of Louisiana’s turbocharged clean energy economy and Inflation Reduction Act investments:

  • $406,584,087 to build a new battery manufacturing plant
  • $10,000,000 to establish a research, training, and technology demonstration center for offshore wind
  • $444,816,850 to expand an existing battery manufacturing facility
  • DOE has announced that Louisiana would receive over $212,000,000 million in home energy rebate funding to lower energy costs and make homes more energy efficient

President Biden’s clean energy plan has helped create over 142,000 clean energy jobs, and boldly invested billions in environmental justice programs.
