Hurricanes And Tropical Storms
- As of Wednesday morning, more than 1.7 million people in Texas were still without power following Hurricane Beryl.
- The National Weather Service warned that with power outages continuing across southeast Texas, the lack of air-conditioning will aggravate the risk for heat-related illnesses as high temperatures warm into the lower and mid-90s.
- The heat index will reach 106 on Wednesday.
- Houston Mayor John Whitmire warned that traffic lights were out across the city and urged people to stay home where possible after dark.
- Houston Police Chief Larry J. Satterwhite said that officers had received more than 100 calls of suspected carbon monoxide leaks and had dealt with broken gas and electricity lines.
