A second person has died in Vermont in the flooding from Hurricane Beryl’s remnants.
In Vermont, more than 100 people were rescued by swift-water teams during the worst of the rainfall, which started Wednesday and continued into Thursday.
In Plainfield, Vermont, a concrete bridge that collapsed and tumbled downstream was likely responsible for ripping off part of an apartment building with five units.
On Wednesday, six tornadoes hit western New York, damaging homes and barns and uprooting trees.
Iowa officials say record flooding and powerful tornadoes in the spring caused $130 million in infrastructure damage.
- More than 5,000 homes were damaged by the storms, including at least 2,000 that are likely irreparable.

Las Vegas, Nevada, hit its sixth day in a row of temperatures at or above 115 degrees as the city soared to a scorching 118 degrees on Thursday.
This weekend, the worst of the heat will stretch from the Southwest into the Rockies and the Plains.
- A heat advisory is in effect in Denver, Colorado, where temperatures over 100 degrees are possible Friday and into the weekend.
- An excessive heat watch has been issued as far east as Omaha, Nebraska, where the heat index could climb to 112 degrees.
