Iowa GOP Won’t Stop Supporting Trump’s Costly War in Iran

Des Moines, IA – As diesel and gas prices continue to rise, Iowa’s GOP House members will undoubtedly try to hide the fact that they have voted to fund Trump’s reckless war with Iran that is driving up energy costs. Now, just days before Congress breaks for the midterms, Ashley Hinson voted for the 6th time again to support Trump’s reckless war with Iran that is driving up energy costs, even while others in her delegation abandoned ship.

This vote comes on top of the IA GOP delegation’s majority support for the Trump administration’s efforts to gut cleaner, cheaper, homegrown energy and allow more harmful pollution that increases health costs for everyone, further compounding the affordability crisis Iowa families are experiencing.

Climate Power Western States Senior Director Tiffany Hsieh issued the following statement:  “Iowa families and farmers are suffering because of Trump’s war in Iran. Now, even as her fellow Iowa Republicans are at least symbolically pretending to care more about their drowning constituents than being a rubber stamp for Trump, Rep. Hinson is making clear she will always put Trump first. Iowa’s Congressional Republicans voted to fund Trump’s open-ended war in Iran to the tune of $95 billion, which has led to record diesel prices and skyrocketing gas prices that are driving up the costs of everything else. Iowan families deserve lower prices and common sense energy policies, not the failed record we are getting from our Republican representatives.”
