REPUBLICANS’ SHUTDOWN CONTINUES

Nearly a month into Trump’s government shutdown, Republicans in Congress continue to choose chaos and harm. Instead of working with Democrats in Congress to lower costs and protect health care, Trump and Republicans chose chaos. They shut down the government — putting working families, federal employees, and millions of Americans at risk, while their billionaire friends stay insulated from the consequences.

What’s really happening?

Here are the facts:

  1. The Trump Shutdown is hurting  all of us. From rising costs, to flight delays and understaffed national parks, to delayed paychecks and food assistance, to stalled safety inspections — the fallout grows by the day.
  2. Essential programs face disruption. Food programs like SNAP food assistance and heating assistance face imminent interruptions as the shutdown drags on, hitting the most vulnerable families first – just as we face colder weather and the start of the holiday season.
  3. Trump has been running a “rolling shutdown” since day one. He’s fired record numbers of federal workers and gutted entire departments, weakening services millions rely on.
  4. Millions of federal workers are going without pay. “Essential” workers like air traffic controllers and food inspectors are being forced to work without paychecks — putting a strain on families and public safety alike.
  5. Airports are in chaos. Staffing shortages have caused widespread flight disruptions and cancellations, while air traffic safety is under pressure.
  6. Clean air and water inspections are at a standstill. EPA’s inspections and permit reviews are suspended, putting communities at risk of contaminated water, polluted air, and higher health risks.
  7. National parks and public lands will suffer. Trash is piling up, wildlife is at risk, and local economies that depend on tourism are suffering.
  8. Disaster preparedness is at risk. Agencies like FEMA and NOAA are already stretched thin. Trump has dismantled disaster relief and weather monitoring programs, and additional staffing constraints leaves communities unprepared for hurricanes, wildfires, and extreme weather.

Why did this happen?

Trump walked away from bipartisan talks, taunted Democratic leaders in meetings meant for negotiation, and openly threatened to “do things during the shutdown that are irreversible.” Instead of governing, Republicans in Congress chose to create a crisis.

Here’s the reality:

Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. They are responsible. They could end this shutdown TODAY by passing a bipartisan deal that protects health care and reins in Trump’s reckless schemes. But they won’t unless we force them to.

Here’s How You Can Get Involved:

We can’t sit on the sidelines while Trump and Republicans hold our government — and millions of families — hostage. Here’s how you can fight back right now:

Don’t let this discourage you.

Trump and Republicans in Congress want us exhausted.

But here’s the truth: This shutdown will end. And when we stay organized, loud, and relentless, we shape how and when it ends.
