WISCONSIN LEADERS CELEBRATE HOUSE PASSAGE OF THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT’S HISTORIC CLIMATE & CLEAN ENERGY INVESTMENTS

MADISON, Wis. – Today, Wisconsin leaders issued statements of support following the House passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which is the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history. Wisconsin stands to benefit tremendously from these historic climate and clean energy investments, which will create thousands of good-paying union jobs across the state and lower consumer energy prices while combating the worst effects of climate change and advancing environmental justice.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the bold job-creating climate action Wisconsinites have been fighting for for years. The majority of Wisconsin voters view climate change as a problem and they want leaders who will act. Roughly 3 in 4 (73%) registered voters in Wisconsin support Congressional climate action, with even more (77%) supporting investments in clean energy jobs.

Leaders from across Wisconsin are praising passage of this landmark legislation, saying:

State Senator Chris Larson: “With such a polarized and closely divided Congress, you might expect that the only policies able to pass would be inconsequential nibbles at the edges of our most pressing problems. The Inflation Reduction Act is further proof that Democrats are more than capable of attacking our biggest challenges head-on. With a historic investment in clean energy and bold prescription drug and healthcare reform, Pres. Biden and Democrats in Congress are poised to make meaningful changes that will benefit millions of Americans, including our most vulnerable.”

Mayor Cory Mason (Racine): “This Inflation Reduction Act is the largest climate investment bill in the history of our country. This means that communities across the country and Wisconsin will receive much-needed federal support to help keep our families safe in the wake of this ever-changing climate crisis. For those of us who call the Great Lakes home, we have already seen an increase in flooding, extreme heat, and toxic algae blooms due to warmer waters. This bill is a step in the right direction to protect our communities and transition into a clean energy economy. Families in Racine will be among the millions of Americans who will benefit from investments in our climate future.”

Kim Kohlhaas, American Federation of Teachers Wisconsin President: “The Inflation Reduction Act will not only make critical climate and clean energy investments but is going to lower energy costs for Wisconsin’s working families. Climate change is estimated to cost the state over $5 trillion a year by the year 2100 and that’s not a typo. This act is not just a major legislative accomplishment, but is an important step forward in protecting the planet for our children and theirs.”
