Electricity prices have spiked by 18% on average since Trump took office as he and Republicans gut clean energy supply
Washington, DC – Today, Trump is gathering utility companies for a toothless “pledge” that the costs of data center energy demand will not fall on American ratepayers. Trump’s previous data center “pledge” was nothing but a pinky promise with no enforcement mechanisms to protect Americans from electricity prices that have skyrocketed by 18% on his watch.
While Trump stages PR stunts to save his tanking approval rating, Americans are paying the price for his cost-raising agenda. As gas prices hit $4 per gallon again this year thanks to Trump’s war of choice in Iran, Americans in five states faced rate hikes as high as $9 a month.
Missouri
- The Missouri Public Service Commission approved a $97 million rate increase for Liberty Utilities electric customers through a three-year phase-in expected to raise customer bills by $9 a month in each phase.
North Carolina
- Duke Energy and the North Carolina Public Utilities Commission reached a compromise on customer rate increases, which, pending final approval, were set to increase electric bills by $6.53 a month starting in 2027, followed by a $4.66 increase in 2028.
Connecticut
- Eversource filed a request for a $727 million annual rate increase that would raise the average residential customer’s monthly electric bill by 18%.
New Mexico
- The Los Alamos County Council proposed increasing the average residential gas bill to $78.53 starting Sept. 1, 2026, up from the current rate of $67.45.
Oregon
- Bonneville Power Administration announced new electric rates increasing power costs by 8.9% and transmission costs by 19.9%, which would remain in effect until September 2028.
