President Biden’s New Standards Hold Polluters Accountable, Cleaning Up Air and Water

Washington, D.C. – In response to the Biden-Harris administration finalizing several major new pollution standards for power plants, including landmark carbon pollution standards for existing coal plants and new gas plants and other toxic pollutants, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“President Biden and his administration are once again standing up to corporate polluters in order to fight climate change, improve the reliability of the electrical grid, slash toxic air and water pollution, and promote cleaner, more affordable American energy choices. Today’s actions further cement Biden’s legacy as the greatest climate president in American history.
“Donald Trump’s record as president is the complete opposite: he put dirty energy lobbyists in charge and gave polluters free rein to spew carbon and toxic pollutants like deadly mercury into our air and water. Trump was the most pro-polluter president in history, and we know he’ll do more of the same: give Big Oil a blank check to profiteer and pollute and crush America’s clean energy boom, while our communities are left with the consequences — reversing our climate progress. Our country and planet can’t afford another Trump presidency.”
President Biden’s latest actions to hold polluters accountable aren’t just good for the planet, they’re overwhelmingly popular with voters:
- 72% of young voters support reducing emissions from coal and gas-fired plants.
- 74% of young people support rules to reduce air pollution from heavy-duty vehicles.
- 71% of young voters support rules to reduce air pollution from light and medium-duty vehicles.
- Approval of Biden’s handling of climate jumps 17 points with young people when they hear more details about his climate actions.
