Split Screen: Kamala Harris Consoles Hurricane Helene Survivors, Trump Spreads Lies and Plays Politics

Washington, D.C. — As Donald Trump returns to Georgia for another photo op, where he’ll lie and spread dangerous climate conspiracy theories, Georgians are still struggling to recover from Hurricane Helene’s devastation. Shocking reporting shows that as president, Donald Trump wanted to withhold aid from communities based on whether they had voted for him. This week, while Kamala Harris was offering assistance to impacted communities, Donald Trump was raising money from the Big Oil billionaires who fuel disasters like Hurricane Helene.
Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump is a dangerous climate denier who will always put himself first. In times of crisis, Trump will callously punish Americans for their political affiliation, chase photo ops, and hamper disaster relief efforts. Kamala Harris is the kind of leader you can rely on – and she will be a leader for all Americans. The choice for the country is on full display this week, and it’s very clear which brand of leadership will be best for our future.”
SPLIT SCREEN:
Trump’s disastrous record was on display this week:
- Yesterday, a shocking E&E News story revealed that during his presidency, Donald Trump withheld disaster aid to Americans based on political affiliation.
- Earlier this week, Trump held a photo op in a town devastated by Helene, diverting necessary resources from the impacted community while continuing to spout climate denial conspiracies.
- Immediately after his publicity stunt, Trump returned to his roots – a swing of fundraisers with Big Oil billionaires.
- While Donald Trump was begging for money from Big Oil, Kamala Harris was in Georgia offering communities assistance and support in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
- Trump’s dangerous Big Oil-sponsored Project 2025 agenda would gut services that help communities prepare for and recover from climate disasters, hiding lifesaving weather alerts behind a paywall and eliminating aid for families and businesses rebuilding after storms.
