Climate Power Launches Accountability War Room Headed by Former Washington Governor Jay Inslee

Washington, D.C.  — Today, Climate Power is launching The Accountability Project: The Costs of Trump to inform the American public about the high cost of Trump’s chaotic agenda in their lives and livelihoods. Headed by former Washington Governor Jay Inslee, a champion of the clean energy economy and climate progress, the new rapid response effort will drive home how the Trump administration’s reckless policies are hiking up Americans’ costs and harming their health.

Donald Trump’s approval rating is underwater – and as Americans see higher utility bills and costs going up across the board, The Accountability Project will make sure they know he’s to blame.

“The best way to handle a bully is by standing up to him. Americans across the country are already struggling to make ends meet, and Donald Trump is saddling them with higher utility bills, harmful pollution, and chaos across the board,” said former Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Head of The Accountability Project. “Democrats have an opportunity to aggressively communicate with Americans about how Trump’s reckless policies are driving up their costs. From limiting our choices for cheaper American-made energy sources to trying to silence detractors, Trump’s policies are hurting Americans from our wallets to the fundamentals of our democracy, and we’re fighting back.”

“Trump’s scare tactics won’t stop us from communicating the truth about his policies – which are sending electricity bills and costs through the roof,” said Lori Lodes, Executive Director of Climate Power. “There’s no better person to helm this project than former Governor Jay Inslee, who was at the forefront of communicating that climate progress is an economic issue. Americans are feeling the pain of Trump’s policies – and we’ll hold him accountable every step of the way.”

The Accountability Project will include paid media to educate the electorate on the cost of Trump’s policies, as well as targeted rapid response research, communications, and organizing efforts in key states and districts nationwide.
