Señor presidente,

¡Felicidades! Su inauguración marca un punto de inflexión en la historia de los Estados Unidos de América y del mundo. La tarea que tenemos por delante es enorme: la necesidad de abordar las devastadoras crisis económicas y de salud mundial, y la necesidad de unir a los estadounidenses para lograrlo, es urgente.

A medida que nos recuperamos de Covid y reconstruimos la economía global, también debemos actuar sobre el cambio climático. De hecho, estas no son misiones separadas, sino una misma a la vez. Esta es la década más decisiva en la historia de la humanidad para enfrentar la crisis climática.

Puede ser recordado como el ‘presidente climático’ que salvó a la humanidad cuando estaba al borde del precipicio. Puede transformar los sistemas energéticos del mundo de combustibles fósiles a energía limpia, al mismo tiempo que crea una abundancia de empleos, reduce la contaminación y aborda la desigualdad económica, racial y de salud en el proceso.

La elección de asumir un liderazgo audaz nos permitirá reconstruir mejor y avanzar hacia un nuevo mundo que podemos crear juntos. Al volver a unirse al Acuerdo de París desde el primer día, ha movido a Estados Unidos en la dirección correcta. Pero, como ha dicho, simplemente no es suficiente y debemos “hacer todo lo que podamos”.

Usted ha dicho: “Cuando escucho la palabra cambio climático, escucho empleos”. Estamos de acuerdo. Si bien la crisis climática presenta desafíos increíbles, también es la mayor oportunidad económica para la innovación, la creación de empleo, nuevos negocios e inversión en nuestras comunidades. Esto va de la mano con la restauración de la justicia y la construcción de un futuro equitativo, inclusivo y justo para todos.

Su compromiso de reconstruir mejor con trabajos de energía limpia y abordar el legado de la injusticia ambiental es la acción consecuente que la ciencia y nuestro futuro demandan. Trabajaremos junto a usted para realizar esta ambiciosa búsqueda.
