Aaron Ford Triumphs Over Joe Lombardo: Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them Election

CARSON CITY, NV — Tonight, Democrat Aaron Ford defeated Republican Joe Lombardo in a historic victory for the people of Nevada. By electing Ford as Governor, Nevadans made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran that is driving up gas and diesel prices to the clean energy cuts and data centers with no guardrails that will drive up utility bills. In Nevada, Emerson College conducted a poll showing 43% of voters viewed the economy as their top issue. A separate poll from Dave Sackett indicated that inflation and cost of living, followed by the economy and jobs, were Nevada voters’ top issues.

Time and time again, Lombardo has supported and praised Republican policies that blocked the path to cheaper, faster, cleaner energy, and now Nevadan families and businesses are paying for it — at the pump and through the data centers polluting their communities. Ford will tackle corporate greed and pollution, put guardrails on utility bill-raising, polluting data centers, and lower utility costs by investing in affordable clean energy.

Ford said it best: “I’ve said they’re not going to be able to raise consumer rates by one penny. [Data centers are] going to have to use clean energy, their own clean energy, to power their facilities and build out the grid to accommodate that.”

“The people of Nevada deserve leaders who are looking out for us and ensuring that we can afford to fill our gas tank and keep our lights on, and that’s why they elected Aaron Ford,” said Climate Power’s Western Hub Senior Director Tiffany Hsieh. “Joe Lombardo has cheered Trump’s unpopular policies, and now he’s paying the price. Nevadans need relief from skyrocketing costs, and Aaron Ford will work to bring down costs for Nevadans—not enrich data centers and oil and gas billionaires.”
