Amish Shah Triumphs Over Jay Feely: Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them the Election

PHOENIX, AZ — Democrat Amish Shah defeated Republican Jay Feely in a victory for the people of Arizona. By electing Shah to Congress, Arizonans made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran that is driving up gas and diesel prices, to the clean energy cuts and data centers with no guardrails that drove up utility bills. According to a recent poll, close to 80% of Arizonans say electricity bills have increased in the past two years, and more than 60% say their summer utility bills are difficult to afford.
Time and time again, Republicans like Feely have cheered on blocking the path to cheaper, faster, cleaner energy, and now Arizona families and businesses are paying for it three times over — at the pump, on their utility bills, and through the data centers polluting their communities. Shah has committed to protecting the state’s water, putting guardrails on utility bill-raising, polluting data centers, and lowering utility costs by investing in affordable clean energy.
Shah said it best during the debate: ““One thing I did agree with, that when the Biden administration came out with all of those clean energy investments that happened all across America, specifically a lot of the Southeast, that they would create the infrastructure to lower electricity costs, clean, cheap energy that’s making things better for the consumer.”
“Arizonans want leaders who will help them afford to access health care, fill the tank, and keep the lights on, and that’s why they elected Amish Shah,” said Climate Power’s Arizona State Director Diali Avila. “Jay Feely stood behind Trump’s agenda during his whole campaign, and he paid the price. Shah will get to work to lower costs for Arizona families.”
