As Trump Heads to Texas, Governor Greg Abbott Cozied Up To Data Center Developers and Covers Up Emails with Musk

Less than a year ago, Gov. Abbott’s team met with Big Tech companies to bring more data centers to the state

Washington, DC –  One week out from Election Day, Trump is heading to Texas to campaign for Gov. Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and Texas Republicans. Greg Abbott has attempted to distance himself from Trump’s push to expand data center development and wants Texans to believe he’s on the right side of the issue, but his record tells a different story. Less than a year ago, Abbott’s team met with Big Tech companies to actively court data center development in the state.

Since then, Abbott has continued cozying up to Big Tech CEOs and companies connected with data centers, including Trump’s bestie Elon Musk, who has given $5 million to Abbott’s campaign and nearly $190 million to Paxton’s campaign. No wonder Abbott is still desperately trying to cover up his emails with Musk. And it’s not just Musk: Abbott has raked in $9 million in campaign funding from donors connected with data centers. Even after Abbott announced a pause in data center permitting, the state continued quietly approving permits for at least 16 data center projects. Meanwhile, Texas families are still being squeezed by rising electricity bills as data center growth strains the state’s power grid.

Climate Power Spokesperson Lizzy Ganssle issued the following statement: “Trump and Texas Republicans are putting their billionaire donors first, while working families are struggling to keep the lights on. As electricity bills skyrocket, Americans want real guardrails around data centers and a real say over their own communities, not empty promises. Even without the emails to Musk that Abbott is desperate to keep Texans from seeing, Abbott’s record has made it clear who he’s looking out for: Big Tech companies and data center developers, not Texan families.”
