Christina Hines Triumphs Over Michael Bouchard: Trump and Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them Election

LANSING, MI — Tonight, Democrat Christina Hines defeated Republican Michael Bouchard in a historic victory for the people of Michigan. By electing Hines to Congress, Michiganders made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran that is driving up gas and diesel prices, to the clean energy cuts and data centers with no guardrails that drove up utility bills.

Time and time again, Bouchard cheered on Republican policies that blocked the path to cheaper, faster, cleaner energy, and now Michigan families and businesses are paying for it three times over — at the pump, on their utility bills, and through the data centers polluting their communities. Hines will tackle corporate greed and pollution, put guardrails on utility bill-raising, polluting data centers, and lower utility costs by investing in affordable clean energy.

Hines left no doubt about her priorities when she shared in an interview that, “As a mom, I worry about what our failing electric grid and infrastructure, climate change, and pollution in Lake Saint Clair will mean for future generations and the thousands of Southeast Michigan jobs tied to our natural resources. We need urgent action: holding polluters accountable, strengthening fuel standards, and expanding clean energy sources. We must also make improving our infrastructure and electric grid a national security priority.”

“Christina Hines will bring down energy costs and stand up for Macomb and Oakland County families in Congress,” said Climate Power’s Michigan Director Tom Lenard. “Michael Bouchard represented the same failed, out-of-touch agenda Trump and his billionaire friends pushed to create this mess, and that’s why they lost tonight.”
