Climate Power Statement on Biden Administration Reforms to Make Big Oil Pay Its Fair Share and Clean Up Its Mess

Washington, D.C. – In response to the Department of the Interior finalizing a package of reforms to the onshore oil and gas leasing program, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:

“President Biden, Secretary Haaland, and the rest of the Biden-Harris administration are holding Big Oil responsible for its greed and pollution. These common sense reforms will force oil and gas polluters to clean up the messes they’ve made on our public lands instead of passing those costs on to taxpayers. For too long, oil and gas companies have gotten away with exploiting our public lands for mere pennies on the dollar. Thanks to President Biden’s reforms, Big Oil is being held accountable.

“On the other hand, when Donald Trump was president, he let Big Oil run roughshod over our public lands while cheating taxpayers out of a fair return. It’s no wonder that billionaires like Harold Hamm and other oil and gas executives are lining up to fund Trump’s campaign and pay his mounting legal bills.”
