Congressman Scott Perry Said No, Took the Dough

Harrisburg, PA — House Speaker Mike Johnson recently promised that a Republican trifecta would doom the Biden-Harris administration’s landmark clean energy plan — legislation that has created more than 330,000 jobs in the past two years, tripling clean energy production and saving Americans billions on their electricity bills.
Congressman Scott Perry not only voted AGAINST the clean energy plan that created these jobs and cost savings, but repeatedly voted to repeal it. He’s so extreme that during the 2023 debt ceiling negotiations, Perry tried to leverage debt ceiling votes and risked throwing the economy into default to repeal renewable energy provisions in the clean energy plan, saying at the time, “If I were in charge, I would repeal the whole awful piece of legislation.”
Yet, this week when Constellation Energy Corp announced a new project in Dauphin County that will take advantage of tax credits from the clean energy plan, generate $1.6 billion in investment, and create an estimated 3,400 jobs — Congressman Scott Perry was more than happy to tout the benefits of this investment for Pennsylvanians. Perry said, “I’m proud to see the launch of the Crane Clean Energy Center. This critical step forward will ensure Pennsylvania has sufficient baseload power to meet its needs for decades to come while producing 3,400 jobs in our community. Thank you to Constellation Energy for working to bring this economic driver back to South Central Pennsylvania.”
“People in Pennsylvania have made it clear — they want investment in clean energy jobs so that we can have lower energy costs and a better future,” said Kelley Hardon, Climate Power’s Pennsylvania State Desk. “We are tired of the hypocrisy of MAGA Republican members who voted against job creation and then want to take credit for the jobs and cost savings in their district that the Biden-Harris clean energy plan has helped create. They would vote against these investments again given the chance — and that’s why we need to vote them out.”
This hypocrisy is typical of MAGA Republicans, who have voted to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act or its provisions 51 times since its passage two years ago. Re-electing Scott Perry would mean re-electing a politician who actively opposed legislation that would benefit Pennsylvanians — and then tried to take credit when Pennsylvanians benefited.
Thanks to the clean energy plan, more than 2,881 new clean energy jobs and $1.09 billion in investment have been announced in Pennsylvania in the past two years. Congressman Scott Perry’s district alone has seen two other new clean energy projects which are generating $14.2 million investment, supporting hundreds of jobs, and delivering real benefits for their constituents.
