David Crowley Triumphs Over Tom Tiffany: Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them Election

MADISON, WI — Tonight, Democrat David Crowley defeated Republican Tom Tiffany in a historic victory for the people of Wisconsin. By electing Crowley as Governor, Wisconsinites made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran driving up gas and diesel prices, to clean energy cuts and data centers with no guardrails that drove up utility bills. A recent Marquette poll found concern about inflation and the cost of living is the leading issue for Wisconsin voters this election, with 48% ranking it as their number one issue.

Time and time again, Republicans like Tiffany blocked the path to cheaper, faster, cleaner energy, and now Wisconsin families and businesses are paying for it three times over — at the pump, on their utility bills, and through the data centers polluting their communities. Crowley will tackle corporate greed and pollution, put guardrails on utility bill-raising, polluting data centers, and lower utility costs by investing in affordable clean energy.

Crowley said it best in a recent interview, “So data centers need to earn their way to their community. But this is also about making sure that we put guardrails in place to say if a community wants it, then they have to make sure that they’re using union labor. We need to do the environmental review. They need to be bringing on clean energy, solar, wind, as well as battery storage, getting as close to 100% renewable energy as possible so we can help generate the new clean energy technology, but also the clean jobs that we see in the future in Wisconsin.”

“Wisconsinites deserve a Governor who will look out for their best interests and ensure that they can afford to keep their lights on and take care of their basic necessities, and that’s why they elected David Crowley,” said Climate Power’s Eastern Hub Director Michelle Hernandez. “Wisconsinites will now have a Governor who will fight for a cleaner, more affordable future for Wisconsin families.”
