GOP’s Pro-Polluter Package is Big Oil’s Wishlist

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the news that the House Republicans plan to pass a pro-polluter legislative package by the end of March, Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes released the following statement:
“This package is nothing more than Big Oil’s wishlist wrapped up in a nice bow, courtesy of their allies in the House Republican caucus. Last year, Republicans in Congress had a chance to support Made in America energy independence by voting for the Inflation Reduction Act, instead, every single one voted against the landmark clean energy legislation. Congressional Republicans’ sole energy plan is to enrich the oil and gas CEOs who are making billions by price gouging working families, and polluting our air, water and environment. The only place this legislation belongs is in the trash.”
The fossil fuel industry is making historic profits and reinvesting them to keep their interests protected. In the 2022 midterms, the oil and gas industry gave $38.4 million in campaign contributions to support Republican candidates. Additionally, in 2022 alone, the oil and gas industry has made over $400 billion in profits, with over $114 billion spent on stock buybacks, and $100 billion on dividends, rewarding their rich shareholders off the backs of working families.
