Jon Ossoff Defeats Mike Collins: Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them the Senate Race

ATLANTA — Tonight Senator Jon Ossoff defeated Republican Mike Collins in a victory for the people of Georgia. By re-electing Ossoff, Georgians made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran that has cost Georgians an extra $2.2 billion at the pump, to the 2025 budget bill that gutted clean energy and handed billions to data center developers. In polling, gas prices (46%) and utility bills (37%) ranked among voters’ top three issues, behind only groceries. Six in 10 voters said Trump is making energy prices worse.

Time and time again, Collins sided with Trump over Georgia families. He voted seven times in support of the war in Iran, then was caught on video claiming gas prices were coming down “fast,” even as diesel hit record highs. He voted for the budget bill that slashed clean energy, and he twice refused on the debate stage to commit to repealing the data center tax breaks in it, while Georgia families face utility bill increases of up to 11% per month by 2028 to power those same data centers. Collins talks about “energy independence,” but he has taken more than $130,000 from the oil and gas industry over his career.

Ossoff refuses contributions from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists, and he has built a record of exposing corruption and fighting for Georgians, not special interests.

“Georgians want leaders who will help them fill the tank, keep the lights on, and put food on the table, and that’s why they re-elected Jon Ossoff,” said Climate Power’s Georgia State Director Mark McLaurin. “Mike Collins rubber-stamped Trump’s war and Trump’s energy cost-raising agenda, then told Georgians their gas prices were coming down while they paid record prices at the pump. He paid the price tonight. Senator Ossoff will keep fighting for Georgia families and lowering their costs.”
