Josh Shapiro Triumphs Over Stacy Garrity in Landslide: Republicans’ Disastrous Energy Policy Cost Them Election

Harrisburg, PA — Tonight, Democrat Josh Shapiro handily defeated Republican Stacy Garrity in a victory for the people of Pennsylvania. By re-electing Gov. Shapiro, Pennsylvanians made their disapproval of Republicans’ energy policy known: from the war in Iran that is driving up gas and diesel prices, to clean energy cuts and data centers with no guardrails that drove up utility bills. In Pennsylvania, more than half of registered voters said it was “very difficult” or “somewhat difficult” to pay their monthly utility bills, surpassing all other costs as the topic of most difficulty and concern.
From instituting guardrails for data center development to expanding clean energy manufacturing in Pennsylvania, Gov. Shapiro has demonstrated his commitment to protecting Pennsylvanians’ health and wallets against the harsh winds from Washington through his energy policies. As Shapiro stated last month, “Pennsylvanians should not be left paying higher electric bills because of data center developers […] We must make sure the companies driving those costs pay their fair share.”
“The people of Pennsylvania deserve a governor who is looking out for us and ensuring that we can afford to fill our gas tank and keep our lights on, and that’s why we re-elected Gov. Shapiro,” said Climate Power’s Pennsylvania Director Abby Cox. “Stacy Garrity supported Trump’s agenda at every turn, and now she’s paying the price. Pennsylvanians need relief from skyrocketing costs, and Gov. Shapiro will continue working to bring down costs for Pennsylvanians—not enrich oil and gas billionaires.”
