NEW POLL: Michiganders Aren’t Letting Candidates Off the Hook for Trump’s Disastrous Energy Policies

Lansing, Mich. – As Michigan families continue to feel the squeeze at the gas pump and on their utility bills, a new EPIC-MRA statewide poll finds that a majority of likely Michigan voters blame Donald Trump for making energy prices more expensive and say they are less likely to vote for a congressional candidate who backs his energy agenda. The poll also shows they are more likely to consider clean energy options and strongly disagree with Trump’s dismissal of economic concerns.
EPIC-MRA President Bernie Porn issued the following statement:
“This data shows Michigan voters are frustrated with the direction of energy policy in Washington and that frustration is showing up across party lines. With competitive races on the ballot this November, candidates who align themselves with Trump’s energy agenda face real political headwinds with the voters they need most.”
Key findings:
- Support for Trump’s energy agenda carries political risk: 42% of Michigan voters say they would be less likely to vote for a congressional candidate who supports Trump’s energy policies, compared to just 21% who say they would be more likely. That includes 44% of Independents and 76% of Democrats.
- 58% of Michigan voters say Trump has made energy prices more expensive (including 64% of Independents), signaling that the economic pain of Trump’s energy agenda is cutting across party lines.
- 63% of Michigan voters disagree with Trump’s claim that high gas prices are a “small price to pay” for the war in Iran.
- 45% of Michigan voters say they have grown more supportive of diversifying America’s energy sources, including solar and wind, since the start of the Iran war.
Climate Power Michigan Director Tom Lenard issued the following statement:
“Trump’s energy agenda is costing Michigan families at the pump and on their power bills—and voters know it. The FAFO danger is clear: backing Trump’s energy policies is a losing bet heading into 2026. Michigan families are not interested in paying more for dirty, expensive fossil fuels while cleaner, cheaper energy sits on the table. Congressional candidates who continue to rubber-stamp this agenda do so at their own political peril.”
The survey was conducted June 15–20, 2026, of 600 likely November 2026 voters (margin of error ±4.0 points), and was commissioned by Climate Power.
