Rep. Chuck Edwards, Rep. Greg Murphy and Rep. David Rouzer are on Recess as North Carolinians Struggle to Pay for Gas, Groceries, Utilities

Raleigh, N.C. – This week, Rep. Chuck Edwards is headed back home to North Carolina for recess while Rep. Greg Murphy and Rep. David Rouzer take tours in Scotland. Meanwhile, Edwards and Murphy have no town halls or feedback sessions scheduled to hear from their constituents. Unfortunately for the people in their districts, Trump’s war in Iran is sending gas and diesel prices through the roof, making everything from airfare to groceries to fertilizer more expensive. This comes after Republicans voted to gut energy production, taking clean energy projects offline at a time when energy demand and utility costs are skyrocketing.
To make matters worse, Edwards said in an interview, “I believe there’s a lot of emotion built into energy prices,” highlighting just how out of touch he is with what North Carolinians actually need to get by.
Here are just a few ways North Carolinians are worse off thanks to Trump:
- In the past month, the price of gas has increased by 43%, or $1.17 in North Carolina
- Since Trump took office, average residential electricity prices have increased by 9.35% in North Carolina.
- 319,780 North Carolina households are behind on their utility bills, with an average debt of $702.65
- North Carolina has had 8,735 clean energy jobs and $2.44 billion in investment lost or stalled
Here are some questions Chuck Edwards owes North Carolinians answers to:
- Why aren’t you holding a townhall?
- What would you say to North Carolinians who are struggling to pay for the rising cost of groceries, gas, and utilities?
- What’s your response to the majority of North Carolinians who don’t support Trump’s war in Iran?
- Why haven’t you stood up against President Trump’s war on clean energy in North Carolina?
Republicans in Congress like Chuck Edwards, Greg Murphy and David Rouzer have voted to gut clean energy projects in their own districts that would have created jobs and protected Americans from global energy shocks. Meanwhile, Trump is bragging about making money off of the war and telling Americans to quit whining about soaring gas prices, leaving vulnerable Republicans scrambling to spin his disastrous economic agenda.
