Rogers Can’t Claim To Be Tough on Data Centers While Campaigning With Big Tech’s Vice President and Elon Musk’s Money

Washington, DC – Mike Rogers wants Michiganders to believe he’s tough on data centers. But today he is campaigning alongside Vice President JD Vance, Big Tech’s close ally in the White House, while his campaign is propped up by nearly $4 million from Elon Musk, who owns the most-polluting data centers in America. In fact, Rogers has begged Michiganders for money, promising to protect Musk if he wins.
So let’s look at it: Rogers backed a statewide moratorium only after reports revealed his own investments, where he stands to make millions from data center build-outs, a transparent attempt to distance himself from a record voters don’t trust. Standing next to Vance, repeatedly campaigning with Trump — who is pushing unfettered data center development — and happily accepting Musk’s help shows where Rogers really stands.
Voters aren’t fooled. Polling shows polluting, utility-raising data centers are atop issue for voters in Michigan, and Rogers is on the wrong side of it. Earlier this year, Rogers proudly endorsed Trump’s plan to supercharge the buildout of unregulated data centers, and heholds millions in investments that stand to benefit from it.
Climate Power Spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson released the following statement: “Mike Rogers can’t campaign with Big Tech’s favorite vice president, take orders from Donald Trump, take millions from Elon Musk, and then expect Michiganders to believe he’ll rein in data centers. Rogers is just another Republican puppet with billionaires pulling the strings, and Michigan voters will hold him accountable in November.”
