Lansing, Mich. – It’s been reported that this afternoon Rep. Tom Barrett will be joined by U.S Secretary of Energy Chris Wright at an event in Lansing to discuss energy issues. It’s important to remember the facts about Tom Barrett and this Administration’s record on energy despite what they may spin later today. The fact is mid-Michigan families are paying more for electricity, more for gas and diesel, more for everything else with higher inflation because of these energy costs, and Tom Barrett and Trump are directly responsible.
The claim: Barrett will try to claim “now that there’s a tentative agreement on the war, prices are going down”
- BUT…the damage has already been done and experts acknowledge the pain at the pump has rocked our economy for good. In fact, since Trump took office, Michigan families are already paying 33% more for gas.
The claim: Barrett will try to claim “the reason prices are higher is because of Michigan’s clean energy laws”
- BUT…Utility bills are up 16% across the country. Clean energy is actually proven to be a more affordable option and it’s Barrett’s votes and the administration’s backward policies that are hurting Michigan families.
The claim: Barrett will try to claim “he can’t stop utilities or the MPSC from raising rates”
- BUT…he has voted to block more affordable clean energy that would support local jobs. Not to mention he has taken $13,000 in donations from utilities and more than $120,000 from oil and gas companies, who then pay no taxes.
