Trump and Republicans Did That: 2026 Breaks Record for Most Days With National Gas Prices Above $4 Per Gallon

The national average price of gas has been above $4 per gallon for 158 days this year

A new Moody’s analysis shows that the Trump-GOP war of choice has cost the average American family $2,000

Washington, DC – With less than three weeks until Election Day, Republicans hoping for good news shouldn’t hold their breath. At 158 days and counting, 2026 has set a new record for gas prices above $4 a gallon. This is the latest in the long list of grim records broken at the pump as vulnerable Republicans unsuccessfully try to distance themselves from Trump despite voting again and again for his war of choice in Iran.

Energy affordability has taken center stage in the midterm elections, with Republicans clearly on the losing side of the issue. Despite their desperate attempts to gaslight Americans, voters overwhelmingly blame Trump and Republicans for high gas, diesel, and utility costs.

Climate Power Communications Director Alex Glass issued the following statement: “Every record broken at the pump spells more bad news for Republicans who are hoping to keep their jobs this November. From the war in Iran to soaring utility bills, Republicans have rubber-stamped Trump’s cost-raising agenda at every step. Now, as the clock ticks down to election day, they’re desperately trying to distance themselves from their own votes. Unfortunately for them, the American people know that the call is coming from inside the house.”
