“Trump’s Favorite Governor:” Rick Jackson’s Profits-Over-People Record Takes Center Stage at GA-GOV Debate

Atlanta, GA — This week, Rick Jackson spent the entire debate trying to distance himself from the very industry he’s personally invested in — claiming he’d only approve new data center facilities if residents see lower utility bills and property taxes — even though his own firm was linked to a nearly 600-acre, $6 billion data center project in Bowie County, Texas developed under a confidentiality provision that kept local residents in the dark. Jackson has said that local communities would have a say in data center decisions — but Texas residents say they had none, with one saying Jackson was putting “profit over people.”
Climate Power Georgia State Director Mark McLaurin issued the following statement:
“The bills are too damn high and Rick Jackson wants to make them even higher. He’s bragged about profiting from Trump’s tariffs, called himself ‘very pro data center,’ and promised to be ‘Trump, but with a Southern tone’ — all while Georgia families struggle to keep the lights on. But Slick Rick can’t change his record and Georgia families can’t afford four years of a governor who puts his own bottom line ahead of theirs.”
Thanks to Donald Trump and Rick Jackson’s agenda:
- Taxpayers are spending more than $43 billion on the war with Iran that is driving up gas and diesel costs — Georgians have already spent an extra $1.99 billion on gasoline since Trump launched his war of choice in Iran, with the average household paying $756 more since the war began. When asked about soaring gas prices, Jackson bragged about owning an oil refinery.
- Cleaner, cheaper energy is being taken away because of the 2025 budget bill, including 1,860 canceled, lost, or delayed clean energy jobs and over $632 million in lost investment in Georgia. Meanwhile, Jackson praised the bill for lowering his own taxes by 40%.
- Trump’s tariff agenda is crushing Georgia families — and Jackson has admitted to personally profiting from the same policies taking money out of Georgians’ pockets.
