Trump’s Hired Chemical Lobbyist Lies and Takes Credit for Drop In Pollution Before Trump Took Office

Washington, D.C. – Today, an ex-chemical trade group executive at Trump’s EPA lied about a new EPA report while praising her former clients. Former chemical executive Nancy Beck claimed that Trump deserved credit for a drop in pollution in 2023, when he was not president. She then claimed this as proof that Trump’s current, 2025 efforts as President to let more chemicals into our air and water would have no health consequences and would create economic benefits.
Climate Power Senior Advisor for Accountability Campaigns Alex Witt issued the following statement: “Donald Trump promised to Make America Healthy Again, and instead, he hired an ex-chemical lobbyist to lie about pollution. Trump has spent months gutting key health protections that will put more toxic chemicals in the air we breathe and the water we drink so that corporate polluters can pad their profits.”
Here are the facts on pollution:
- The American Lung Association found that 156 million people, 25 million more than in their 2024 report, live in areas that received an “F” grade for either ozone or particle pollution.
- Trump’s budget would slash funding for the EPA’s enforcement of the Clean Air Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, and calls the agency’s strong bipartisan record of collecting fines for pollution violations “legally dubious.”
- The Associated Press found that the pollution protections Trump wants to reverse could prevent a projected 30,000 deaths and save $275 billion each year.
