Trump’s Very Bad Week: Business Leaders, House Republicans, Courts, and the American People Rebuke Trump’s Disastrous Energy Agenda

Washington, D.C. – Over the last week, President Trump has been dealt a series of blows as he was rebuked by the courts, business leaders, and even members of his own party for his misinformation-fueled — and at times illegal — agenda that will raise energy costs on American families and kill jobs across the country. To make matters worse for him, new polling out today shows a massive drop in confidence from the American people that Trump can create and protect jobs.

Twenty one House Republicans sent a letter to their party’s leadership asking to protect the clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act that have unleashed a manufacturing and jobs boom, particularly in red states and districts, creating over 400,000 jobs already across the country. Business leaders have flooded Hill offices calling for the tax credits to be protected, citing repeal as a major threat to investment in the United States and to achieving President Trump’s claim of pushing for “energy dominance.”

On top of that, Trump’s EPA was scolded by a federal judge this week for “vague and unsubstantiated assertions of fraud” when they illegally tried to rescind billions of dollars of grants under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund that will lower energy costs for American households. This comes as a new report from Energy Innovation shows that gutting America’s clean energy investments will raise household energy bills by $32 billion and kill nearly 1.5 million jobs over the next ten years.

All these threats to clean energy investments and programs are adding up for Trump. Just today, new polling shows that the American people’s confidence in Trump’s ability to create good-paying jobs cratered 10 points since December.
