Vance Heads to Texas as Paxton Finally Admits He and Trump Are Dragging Down His Campaign

Trump and Vance’s policies have raised costs for the average Texas family by more than $2,000 — and Ken Paxton has continued to support them

Washington, DC – JD Vance is on the ground in Texas today for what is sure to be a masterclass in charisma and relatability, and the timing couldn’t be better. Just this morning, leaked audio from Ken Paxton said the quiet part loud (literally) and caught him saying not only that Trump’s self-congratulatory midterm convention was a bust, but also that Trump and Vance are dragging down Paxton’s already dwindling chances. A notable moment for a candidate who has followed Trump and Vance around like a lost puppy.

And it’s no surprise why. Diesel prices have broken multiple record highs in the past few weeks and even today sit at nearly $6.40 per gallon nationally. That means everything from groceries to deliveries will stay more expensive for Americans. And even regular gas prices are a disaster; a gallon in Texas is nearly $4, $1.35 higher than it was at this point last year. On top of that, even if Texans decide to stay home instead of going broke at the pump, household electricity costs in Texas have increased by 8% since Trump took office. And while Paxton pretends to stand up to data centers, Trump keeps exposing the lie by cheerleading data centers and saying any community that objects wants to be “backwards and poor.”

The bad news for Ken Paxton? He has been a vocal supporter of all of Trump’s policies that have broadsided the pocketbooks of hardworking Texans. Even as Trump has routinely demeaned and belittled him while at the same time wining and dining the Big Tech and Big Oil billionaires who are the only people benefiting from this presidency.

Climate Power Spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson issued the following statement: “Even Ken Paxton is coming clean – Trump and his war of choice in Iran are deeply unpopular. JD and Ken can try and spin it all they want today, but Texans know who’s responsible for their economic pain. Gas and diesel prices are skyrocketing because of Trump’s war, and in public, Ken has stood by his man at every opportunity, only speaking up when he thought his words were private. While you pay more every day for your housing, groceries, and gas, Trump, Ken Paxton, and their billionaire donors continue to get richer from a war with no end in sight.”
