Vice Presidential Nominees Visit Wisconsin, Laying Out Drastically Different Views on Fighting Climate Change

Eau Claire, WI— Senator JD Vance visited Eau Claire today, days after Governor Tim Walz’ visit to Wausau and Superior over the weekend. A recent Climate Power poll found 65% of Wisconsin voters say climate change and clean energy will be important to their vote, including 78% of voters aged 18-34. Over the past ten years, Wisconsin has experienced 31 billion-dollar climate-related disasters causing $113.9 billion in damages that killed more than four hundred people.

During his visit to Superior, Governor Walz emphasized climate change as a concern for voters. While discussing the lack of popularity for Project 2025, he said “No one wants to avoid dealing with climate change.” Walz went on to encourage rally goers to talk to their community members about issues they are concerned about including climate change.

Today, JD Vance repeated debunked lies about the progress made because of the Biden-Harris’ clean energy plan. Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for this legislation, which is projected to triple clean energy production and will help Americans save $38 billion on electricity bills. In 2023 alone, the clean energy plan saved families $8.4 billion in tax credits to lower the costs of clean energy and energy efficiency upgrades to their homes. In Wisconsin, 73,250 Wisconsin households saved over $91 million in residential clean energy credits.

JD Vance is an extremist who opposes clean energy and environmental protections. Vance has gone so far to cast doubt on whether human activity is driving climate change, and said that “this low environmental crisis” was created to “justify Democratic donors.”

“Wisconsinites are already dealing with the impacts of climate change and have made it clear that they want to elect leaders who will take action to prevent some of these worst predictions,” said Climate Power’s States Managing Director Mónica Perez. “The contrast couldn’t be more stark– Harris-Walz have a record of fighting for more clean energy production and jobs, while Trump-Vance will only fight for their big oil donors.”

The contrast is clear: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will take climate action and lower costs for families. Donald Trump and JD Vance, on the other hand, will prioritize Big Oil’s interests over those of the American people.
