Columbus, OH – U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright visited Northern Ohio yesterday to attempt to clean up after the Trump Administration and the Republican-held Congress’ policies that are driving up electricity costs across Ohio and nationwide.
The fact is, Ohio families are paying more for electricity, gas and diesel, and everything else because of these energy costs, and Ohio Republicans and Trump are directly responsible.
New state-specific modeling by the non-partisan policy group Energy Innovation underscores the direct links between Trump’s policies, rubber-stamped by Republican Congressmembers, and the cost-of-living crisis Ohioans face.
Toplines from Energy Innovation’s new analysis include:
- Ohio households will pay an additional $27 billion for energy – an average of $530 per household in 2035 and $690 in 2040.
- Cutting policies that drive transportation sector innovation and efficiency will inflate gasoline prices in Ohio 16 percent in 2035 and 30 percent in 2040, atop upward pressure from the Iran war.
- OBBBA and federal cuts to domestic manufacturing and innovation will cost Ohio’s economy 6,800 jobs per year on average over the next decade, in addition to the 9,500 clean energy jobs lost since January 2025.
- Slowing down electrification and domestic energy manufacturing will lower GDP, spilling into other economic sectors. Ohio’s economy will lose $920 million in GDP in 2030, with annual losses peaking at $3.9 billion by 2037.
- Worsening local air pollution will raise healthcare costs in Ohio by $1.3 billion, with annual increases of $130 million in 2035 and $160 million in 2040, contributing to rising household costs alongside rising energy prices and goods inflation.
