Zach Lahn’s Plan to Lower Energy Costs? Hide Behind Trump’s Sham Diesel Executive Order

Washington, DC – Zach Lahn’s entire affordability plan, as laid out tonight: point to Donald Trump’s sham executive order on diesel while offering no meaningful help for the energy affordability crisis Trump created. A “solution” that arrives with diesel prices in the state north of $6 a gallon — a 70% increase — after Trump gutted clean energy and started a war, and it does nothing to help farmers at harvest, small businesses moving goods, or families watching prices climb at the pump.

And Iowans see right through Lahn’s false empathy. He made clear he had no plan, no specifics, and no explanation of how a photo-op stunt would lower anyone’s bills. In contrast, Democratic candidate Rob Sand highlighted a real problem facing Iowans head-on — and laid out exactly how he would fix it. That solution includes capping the utility fees being charged by utility companies, a fix that is particularly relevant as surging electricity prices have increased by 33% across the state. That is the difference between a candidate with a plan to get things done and one who hides behind Trump’s empty promises.

Climate Power Spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson released the following statement: “Trump promised cheaper energy and instead delivered record-high $6 per gallon diesel. Zach Lahn’s answer is to cheer on an executive order that fixes nothing. Families don’t need a photo op — they need a governor who will actually lower costs, and they know that won’t be Zach Lahn.”
