WHY GEORGIA NEEDS THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT NOW

Critical climate and clean energy investments will create millions of good-paying jobs, lower energy costs for families, invest in disadvantaged communities and reduce climate pollution. Not only are Georgians demanding climate action now, with 76% of registered voters supporting Congressional action on climate change, they are experiencing the devastating impacts of climate change. In 2020, Tropical Storm Zeta alone cost Georgia more than $22 million, demonstrating precisely why Congress must act now and pass the Inflation Reduction Act to secure Georgia’s future. MEMO: Georgia Latinos, Climate Change, and the Biden Administration’s Clean Energy Plan

BSP Research recently conducted a survey of Latinos in Georgia on behalf of Climate Power and GALEO. The survey included interviews with a total of 500 Latinos across the state. The purpose of the survey was to measure awareness and favorability of the Biden Administration’s Clean Energy Plan and to evaluate economic elements that resonate the most with Latinos in Georgia.

Georgia Clean Energy Boom Report

Passing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has kicked America’s clean energy sector into high gear, transforming Georgia into a solar and electric vehicle battery manufacturing powerhouse. Across the state, new clean energy projects have already spurred $21.9 billion in investment, the 2nd highest in the nation, and created or moved forward over 19,100 good-paying clean energy jobs, the 4th most in the country. Since the IRA’s passage, 29 new clean energy projects have been announced or moved forward in Georgia, ranking 2nd in the nation, with projects spanning four sectors – solar, batteries, electric vehicles, and other clean technologies. In Georgia’s rural communities, companies have announced $1.46 billion in investment and the creation of 2,414 good-paying clean energy jobs. The IRA will continue to accelerate the clean energy jobs boom while lowering energy costs for families, investing in disadvantaged communities, and reducing climate pollution across the state.
