South Carolina Clean Energy Boom Report

Passing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has kicked America’s clean energy sector into high gear and in South Carolina, that means the state is becoming an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing powerhouse. South Carolina ranks 5th in the nation for new clean energy projects, with 23 new clean energy projects announced or advanced since the IRA passed. Across the state, new clean energy projects have already spurred $11.34 billion in investment, the 8th highest in the country, and created or moved forward over 14,600 good-paying clean energy jobs, the 7th highest nationally. Projects span six sectors – batteries, clean tech, electric vehicles, grid and transmission, hydrogen, and solar. In South Carolina’s rural communities, six projects have spurred $1.75 billion in investment and the creation of 2,797 good-paying clean energy jobs. The IRA will continue to accelerate the clean energy jobs boom while lowering energy costs for families, investing in disadvantaged communities, and reducing climate pollution across the state.
