VIDEO: Abdul El-Sayed: Michigan is Suffering Because of Trump’s Anti-Science Policies
Washington, D.C. – Today, Michigan-native Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a physician, public health expert, and former health director for the city of Detroit, released a video decrying the toxic air children are forced to breathe because of anti-climate science policies that prioritize polluters over people.
Speaking just steps from Detroit’s most polluted zip code, El-Sayed called out President Trump for failing to listen to experts on the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis, noting that is Americans living in frontline communities paying with their lives and health.
The video was released just hours after the Republican National Convention formally began, and Republicans announced they would not put forward any policy plans to combat the most pressing issues facing the country. In fact, the GOP platform called climate science “the triumph of extremism over common sense,” despite decades and decades of research which proves climate change is killing Americans, causing millions in property damage, and increasing the rates and security of diseases, especially in Black, Bown, and Indigenous communities.
