Statement on President-Elect Biden’s Nomination of Brenda Mallory to Lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality

Washington, D.C. — Today, Lori Lodes, executive director of Climate Power 2020, issued the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s decision to nominate Brenda Mallory as Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality:

“Brenda Mallory’s nomination to lead the Council on Environmental Quality underscores President-elect Biden’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis, protecting our public lands, and securing the right to clean air and water for everyone. Mallory has dedicated her career to fighting to protect our planet and the most vulnerable communities across the country. Mallory will be a standout environmental leader in the new administration, ready to restore our nation’s bedrock environmental protections, advocate for justice, and implement President-elect Biden’s bold climate agenda.”

Mallory served as the general counsel for the White House Council on Environmental Quality, where she worked toward advancing President Barack Obama’s environmental, energy, and natural resources agenda. She also served as the acting general counsel and the principal deputy general counsel at the Environmental Protection Agency. 

Currently, Mallory is Director of Regulatory Policy at the Southern Environmental Law Center. Previously she worked as the Executive Director and Senior Counsel for the Conservation Litigation Project, which supports the protection of environmental and conservation values on public lands.
