Statement on President-Elect Biden Naming Jennifer Granholm as Head of Department of Energy

Washington, D.C. – Today, Lori Lodes, executive director of Climate Power 2020, issued the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s reported decision to appoint former Governor of Michigan Jennifer Granholm to lead the Department of Energy:

“President-elect Biden’s reported decision to appoint former Governor Jennifer Granholm to lead the Department of Energy adds a critical voice to his all-government approach to combating the crisis. Adding Granholm to his Cabinet is a sign we can expect real climate action and clean energy innovation from this new administration. Granholm brings invaluable experience as a governor and an understanding of energy that will help steer our nation’s climate and clean energy agenda, while building our economy back even better.”

Granholm has a strong record on clean energy and climate – including during her time as Governor of Michigan, where she created the Michigan Climate Action Council, led in developing cleaner cars, advocated for clean energy jobs, and as a member of the 2009 Obama transition advisory team on the economy.

Under Granholm, the Department of Energy will play a critical role in making Biden’s campaign trail promise of building a strong clean energy economy a reality.
