Statement on President-Elect Biden Selecting Michael Regan To Lead Environmental Protection Agency
Washington, D.C. – Today, Lori Lodes, executive director of Climate Power 2020, issued the following statement on Joe Biden’s reported decision to nominate Michael Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency:
“Michael Regan is an outstanding choice by the Biden team to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, which will be a cornerstone of the new administration’s government-wide fight against the climate crisis. Regan brings decades of experience as an environmental leader and an understanding of the bold climate action this moment requires. With members of the team now in place and climate leaders in senior roles across the entire administration, President-elect Biden will be ready to hit the ground running in January and start delivering on his climate mandate on Day One.”
Regan currently serves as the secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and previously worked at the Environmental Defense Fund. He also spent nearly a decade working for the Environmental Protection Agency under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
Regan’s leadership will help the new administration as they work to undo the damage done to the agency by President Donald Trump and his pro-polluter agenda and go further to implement President-elect Biden’s bold, climate agenda. He brings significant experience working on pollution and air quality issues, which will be critical as he works with the Biden team to fight the climate crisis and build a clean energy economy.
