NEVADA LEADERS CELEBRATE HOUSE PASSAGE OF THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT’S HISTORIC CLIMATE & CLEAN ENERGY INVESTMENTS

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Today, Nevada leaders issued statements of support following the House passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which is the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history. Nevada stands to benefit tremendously from these historic climate and clean energy investments, which will create thousands of good-paying union jobs across the state and lower consumer energy prices, while combating the worst effects of climate change and advancing environmental justice.

The Inflation Reduction Act is the type of bold climate action Nevadans have been advocating for for years. Seventy-one percent of Nevadans support regulating carbon emissions, with even more (77%) supporting tax credits that would support the production of clean energy vehicles and solar panels. Elected officials and labor leaders throughout Nevada are praising passage of this landmark legislation, saying:

State Representative Howard Watts III, Chair of the Nevada Assembly Committee on Natural Resources: “Nevada has some of the most severe climate impacts and some of the greatest clean energy potential in the nation. With the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, Nevadans will see even more good jobs created and even more utility savings from the switch to affordable and renewable power, leading to a more resilient economy and putting us on a path to reach our climate pollution reduction goals. Best of all, we’ll do this while leveling the playing field for communities that have historically been left behind and help pay for it by updating outdated oil and gas leasing practices – a cause that both Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have championed. I thank them for their leadership and the Senate for passing this historic investment in our nation’s future.”

State Senator Chris Brooks: “The Inflation Reduction Act provides for the largest and most consequential investment in climate action in American history. By investing in policies such as clean energy tax credits, clean transportation and manufacturing, and green investment funding, Nevada is primed to benefit from this historic legislation by creating high-wage careers, reducing energy bills for working families throughout the state, and advancing our nation’s efforts to secure energy independence. I want to thank Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen, along with Representatives Titus, Horsford and Lee for fighting on behalf of Nevadans to get this game changing legislation passed. Nevada is ready to build it all, build it now, and use union labor to do it.”

Paul Selberg, Executive Director of Nevada Conservation League : “The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is a big win for American families and our climate and the Nevada Conservation League thanks Senators Cortez Masto & Rosen and Representatives Titus, Horsford, & Lee for their support in passing the largest climate bill in our nation’s history. This bill will tackle the climate crisis by creating thousands of good-paying jobs and lowering energy costs for Nevada’s families. Currently, Nevada is projected to see nearly 30 days of extreme heat a year, with heat wave days projected to increase from 15 to almost 55 days annually. That means that a reduction in energy costs for each family is an absolute necessity provided by this bill. This is a major step towards a brighter, cleaner, and healthier energy future for all.”

James Halsey, IBEW Local 357 Business Manager and Financial Secretary: “Nevada has been a national leader when it comes to advancing a clean energy economy, and thanks to the passage of The Inflation Reduction Act, our State will be able to continue our progress by expanding our already thriving renewable energy industry and creating good-paying jobs across the Silver State. This historic victory would not have been possible without the leadership of Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, in addition to Representatives Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, and Susie Lee. The members of IBEW Local 357 send them our gratitude for investing in our clean energy future and creating opportunities for our growing workforce. Let’s get to work.”
