President Biden’s Budget is Another Downpayment on Big, Bold Action on Clean Energy and Climate Change
Washington, D.C. – President Biden took another major step forward in centering climate action and clean energy with the release of his FY 2022 budget, which proposes $14 billion in new spending across government to support programs aimed at reducing emissions, bolstering clean energy, investing in research and development, prioritizing environmental justice, and improving climate resilience and sustainability. More than 10 percent of the total increase in domestic spending is focused on climate, clean energy, and environmental priorities, including rebuilding the Environmental Protection Agency.
“President Biden’s proposed budget is another huge down payment on his promise to take bold action on climate change and build a clean energy economy,” said Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes. “This plan puts climate action, clean energy, and environmental justice at the center of rebuilding our country to make it stronger, better, and more prosperous. In addition to the vital down payment, Congress must get to work on the American Jobs Plan to create the clean energy jobs we need today and build the country we need to be competitive tomorrow.”
President Biden’s budget comes on the heels of the American Jobs Plan, which will make transformational investments in clean energy and infrastructure that will combat climate change while creating millions of good-paying, union jobs.
