STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW ACTIONS TO ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS HEAD ON

(Washington, D.C.) – In response to President Biden’s visit to Massachusetts to announce additional steps to address the climate crisis, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:

“As the President said today, the climate crisis is a clear and present danger. Hundreds of millions of people from Texas to Europe are suffering under apocalyptic heat. Lakes in the West that people depend on for drinking water and clean power are running dry. Devastating flooding is threatening communities across the country.

“If Joe Manchin refuses to act, President Biden must. If Joe Manchin refuses to produce cheaper American-made renewable energy, President Biden will. Today’s announcement will help communities struggling with extreme, fatal heatwaves immediately and put us on a path to achieving real energy independence.

We cannot wait for Congress any longer. The Biden administration must press ahead and take further bold action to meet this moment.”
