Statement on the Confirmation of EPA Administrator Michael Regan
Washington, D.C. – Today, Lori Lodes, executive director of Climate Power, issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Michael Regan as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator:
“Michael Regan understands we never have to choose between protecting our environment or building a strong economy — and that now is our moment to act boldly and create millions of new good-paying union clean energy jobs and tackle the climate crisis head on. Regan’s record of fighting for clean air while holding polluters accountable and spurring clean energy job growth make him the perfect pick to lead the EPA at this pivotal moment in the fight against the climate crisis.”
Regan is a climate champion with a record of fighting pollution, improving air quality, advancing clean energy, and advocating for environmental justice — all while holding polluters accountable. Regan played an integral role in the development and implementation of North Carolina Executive Order 80, which outlined bold inter-agency action to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis and transition North Carolina to a clean energy economy. This experience will be an asset as Regan leads the EPA’s efforts to protect our health and environment while building a clean energy economy that will support millions of good-paying jobs.
Most recently, Regan served as the secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and he previously worked at the Environmental Defense Fund. He also spent nearly a decade working for the Environmental Protection Agency under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
