NEW: The Trump Administration Pays Back Oil & Gas Donors and Sticks Americans with the Bill

Washington, D.C. — The Department of Energy announced a $625 million investment to expand America’s coal industry, the latest move in the Trump administration’s war on clean energy that will eliminate good-paying jobs and raise energy prices for hard-working Americans. Trump is bailing out the coal industry while gutting cheaper, cleaner sources of energy, which are the fastest way to meet our growing energy demand. Trump’s plans to prop up coal-fired power plants could cost consumers between $3-6 billion a year.

Climate Power senior advisor Alex Witt issued the following statement: “Trump is using taxpayer dollars to prioritize polluters over people – doubling down on driving Americans’ energy bills even higher, while the coal industry profits. Trump’s reckless energy policies are hiking utility costs, while taking us back to the 1800s and ceding the future to China. While Trump bails out his coal donors, Americans will pay the price with higher energy bills and dirtier air and water.”
