Arizona Loses Another Clean Energy Project Thanks to Trump’s Failing Energy Policies

The state has already endured the cancellation of six clean energy projects, resulting in more than 8,000 lost jobs and more than $2 billion in lost investment.
WASHINGTON, DC – Donald Trump’s war on clean energy has stalled another project in Arizona, this time cancelling a $1.8 billion loan specifically for the deployment of renewable energy sources, the construction of a battery storage facility and the creation of electric transmission lines. This project, part of the Department of Energy’s cancellation of $30 billion in loans to expand clean power generation, is just another in a long series of project cancellations in the Grand Canyon State. To date, the Trump administration’s energy policies have now canceled seven clean energy projects in Arizona, totaling more than $3.8 billion in lost investment, that were projected to create thousands of good-paying jobs.
While Trump’s clean energy cuts are actively stopping cheaper new sources of energy from being connected to the grid, household electricity costs have increased by 6.17% for Arizona families on his watch — all while Reps Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert rubberstamp Trump’s agenda. On top of that, his failure of a “budget” bill is projected to increase annual gasoline bills in Arizona by $260 by 2030 and $439 by 2035 and increase Arizonans’ annual total energy bills by $140 by 2030 and $220 by 2035.
Climate Power Communications Director Alex Glass issued the following statement: “Time and time again, when presented with the choice between lining the pockets of his rich oil donors or lowering costs for hardworking Americans, Donald Trump has made it clear whose side he is on. From dismantling LIHEAP — which helped keep costs low for tens of thousands of Arizonans — to freezing home energy rebates, Donald Trump has spent his first year in office broadsiding hardworking Arizonan families. We are going to spend every day reminding voters who are raising their costs: Trump and his Rubber Stamps in Congress.”
Trump’s reckless energy policies are leaving a trail of shuttered projects across Arizona:
- Trump’s attacks on clean energy have led to the cancellation of seven clean energy projects in Arizona, resulting in 8,058 lost jobs and $3.8 billion in lost investment.
- In July 2025, Fortescue canceled its planned green hydrogen project in Arizona, which would have generated 80 MW of green hydrogen for use as a fuel. Fortescue’s chief executive of growth and energy said the “shift in policy priorities away from green energy” was responsible for its decision to cancel the $550 million project. The project’s construction was expected to support 40 permanent jobs.
- In March 2025, Kohler was selected to receive up to $51.2 million in federal funding to install a Vikrell electric boiler and microgrid system at its Casa Grande, Arizona, manufacturing facility, but the Trump administration canceled the grant in May 2025. The project’s federal funding was initially threatened by the Trump administration’s plan to eliminate the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations’ Industrial Demonstrations Program, which awarded the grant.
- In October 2025, Freeport-McMoRan’s grant to develop geothermal energy at its Morenci copper mine in Arizona was canceled by the Trump administration. The project was awarded $80 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy that would have supported geothermal energy source development and integrated battery energy storage and microgrid operations at the company’s Morenci and Safford mines. The project was expected to create 121 construction and 12 full-time jobs.
