Trump Heads to Georgia Amidst an Energy Affordability Crisis of His Own Making

In an upset last November, Democrats made history by flipping two seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission

Washington, DC – As Georgians face soaring utility bills and pink slips, Donald Trump is heading to the Peach State to spin his disastrous economic agenda. Trump and Republicans have decimated clean energy manufacturing across the country, including canceling seven projects in Georgia, impacting more than 2,500 jobs. In November, voters held Republicans accountable for their cost-raising energy policies by electing two Democrats to the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) for the first time in nearly two decades.

This visit comes just one week after the Trump administration took the most pro-pollution action in history when they rolled back the endangerment finding — the legal foundation that allows the EPA to limit pollution. Northwest Georgia is one of the nation’s “PFAS hotspots” and Trump’s decision made it even easier for corporations to continue making Georgians sicker.’

Climate Power Deputy Communications Director Christina Polizzi issued the following statement: “At every turn, Trump is making life more expensive and less safe for Americans. Now, he is heading to Georgia to do damage control for Republicans on an affordability crisis that he created. Last year’s election results in Georgia should have sent alarm bells ringing for every single Republican who has put their loyalty to Trump over their own constituents. We’re going to make sure voters know who to blame for soaring utility bills and fewer jobs.”
