FACT CHECK: Trump’s War on Clean Energy is Costing Jobs, Gutting Energy Investment

WASHINGTON, DC – In his State of the Union address today, Donald Trump claimed that his administration has created tens of thousands of jobs and bragged about his “drill baby drill” prioritization of oil and gas, which he said has created record job growth. Unfortunately, the reality is far different from what Trump would like the American people to know. His war on clean energy has halted hundreds of projects nationwide, taken gigawatts of clean energy off the grid, stalled tens of billions in investment and cost hundreds of thousands of jobs. So here’s the truth:

FACT: Since Trump’s election, 354 clean energy projects or companies have canceled new projects, delayed investments, or laid off workers.

FACT: Trump’s war on clean energy has stalled more than $61.41 billion in clean energy investment, which would have powered the equivalent of 14.23 million homes.

FACT: The Trump administration’s loyalty to non-renewable energy has resulted in the loss or delay of 172,988 clean energy jobs between his election and February 17, 2026.

FACT: By 2030, Trump’s clean energy cuts in his GOP budget bill are expected to result in a $980 billion loss in cumulative GDP and cost 760,000 jobs, rising to 900,000 by 2032.

FACT: Companies announced 385,000 new clean energy jobs between the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in August 2022 and June 30, 2025. A historic bill that Trump gutted.

FACT: Clean energy jobs pay about 21 percent higher than average, and clean energy industries are represented by a union or covered under a project labor agreement at a higher rate than traditional energy employment.

FACT: Trump’s cuts to federal clean energy tax investments are expected to reduce the build-out of new clean power generating capacity by 53% to 59% from 2025 through 2035.
