YIKES: Gas Prices Hit $4 While GOP Tours a Scottish Castle

Washington, DC – While gas prices passed $4 per gallon nationally, some House Republicans opted to go abroad and sightsee instead of returning to their districts to answer to their constituents for raising costs. Semafor reported that lawmakers, including Reps. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), Mike Flood (NE-01), Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), were spotted visiting Edinburgh Castle in Scotland during congressional recess. Reps. Greg Murphy (NC-03) and Bill Huizenga (MI-04) were also identified on the trip. While they are so concerned with listening to the somber sounds of bag pipes, the American people are more worried about the cost of the gas in our nation’s pipes.

Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee issued the following statement: “Must be nice to vote for a war and clean energy cuts that create an energy cost crisis back home, then avoid hearing about it by flying on the taxpayer dime to tour castles in Scotland. Every day, people are seeing higher prices at the pump and are being forced to make difficult choices about whether to fill up their tanks or buy groceries. Republican lawmakers need to answer for the ways they are raising costs and letting Trump wage war on our wallets. How are House Republicans planning to address the affordability crisis, if they are busy traveling and sightseeing at a time when most Americans can’t even afford flights?”
