Shot/Chaser: Rep. Zach Nunn Claims Inflation is Heading in the Right Direction

Des Moines, IA – This week, Rep. Zach Nunn claimed in a listening session on Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act (OBBBA) that inflation is bending “in the right area.” He couldn’t be more out of touch with the struggles of Iowans being hit with skyrocketing prices.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Rep. Nunn served in the Iowa State Legislature, where he praised Iowa’s clean energy resources for attracting investment and jobs to the state, promoted the state’s clean energy tax credits, and claimed to advocate for clean air and water. Yet, in Congress, Nunn has done a complete 180, consistently siding with Big Oil and chemical polluters over the health and safety of Iowans.
Nunn has voted to gut clean energy, threatening to increase energy costs, cut jobs, and reduce energy production in his own state, all while his constituents have seen skyrocketing gas and electricity prices. According to Federal Election Commission filings, Nunn has received $87,887 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry for his 2026 congressional campaign.
SHOT: Nunn Argued Inflation Was Bending “In The Right Area.” During a Listening Session on the OBBBA, Nunn said, “One, we don’t want to see a runaway cost of inflation here. It’s one of the things we’re fighting for, particularly on financial services. We’ve actually seen that bend in the right area.”
CHASER: Gas prices in Iowa are up 42% since the start of Trump’s war in Iran, spiking to $4.32 per gallon in mid-May. Diesel prices have similarly spiked, averaging $5.37 a gallon in Iowa in early May, just cents under our state’s record high of $5.44 a gallon in 2022. In 2026 alone, Trump’s war with Iran is expected to cost Iowa $2 billion or $1,461 per family in gas and inflation.
