Topeka, Kansas – Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland’s visit to Kansas will spotlight how President Biden’s clean energy plan is delivering environmental justice investments to the state’s local communities. The Biden Administration has made historic investments to combat legacy pollution, restore critical habitats, address the state’s drought crisis, and help communities prepare for extreme weather events.
To promote environmental justice in Kansas, the Biden administration has invested millions in cleaning up orphaned oil and gas wells, restoring Indigenous prairies, improving wildfire management, addressing the drought, reclaiming abandoned mines, and preserving Kansas’ geological and geophysical data.
Funding for Kansas’ clean energy and environmental justice initiatives include:
- $14,000,000 in updating flood management infrastructure in Kansas.
- $25,000,000 in addressing the state’s legacy pollution.
- $225,000,000 in native prairie restoration.
Additionally, Kansas is leading the shift to clean energy with the country’s highest number of new clean energy jobs – 20,600 jobs. Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, ground has been broken on a $4 billion EV battery plant.
